Gazi Hassan

Gazi Hassan is an applied economist, teaching macroeconomics and research methods in management studies.

Gazi is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Waikato. He is also a Research Associate in the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA) at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University, and a Visiting Academic at the Centre on Migration, Policy, and Society, Oxford University. 

His primary field is development macroeconomics with research interests in cross-country economic growth, international migration & remittances and South Asian economies. He is able to contribute to analysis on how external events (eg., China’s slow down) or internal events (eg., regional conflict) can affect South Asian growth or migration patterns. On the social policy side, he is able to comment on how homegrown solutions (eg., non-formal primary education) to development problems may have a robust impact on MDGs.

Currently, his research on migration and remittances allows him to contribute to writing on some aspects of Sustainable Development Goals in South Asia.
