Dr Ian Huffer is a Senior Lecturer in Media Studies at Massey University, New Zealand. His research is primarily focused upon the social, cultural and economic relations constituted through the circulation and consumption of film.
Previous work has examined the extent to which different methods of film distribution and exhibition in New Zealand are able to connect particular socio-demographic groups to a range of international cinema and how these patterns of consumption are connected to the operation of social, cultural and economic power (Participations: Journal of Audience and Reception Studies (Vol 16, Issue 1), Cultural Trends (Vol 26, Issue 2), Continuum: Journal Of Media and Cultural Studies (Vol 30, Issue 6), Studies in Australasian Cinema (Vol 5, Issue 3 & Vol 6, Issue 2)).
He is currently investigating the distribution, exhibition and reception of Chinese films in New Zealand.
