Stephen Hoadley

Associate Professor, University of Auckland

Stephen Hoadley is Associate Professor of Politics and International Relations at the University of Auckland.

Hoadley’s specialty is Foreign Policy Analysis, a sub-discipline of International Relations.  He explores why particular governments pursue particular foreign policies, considering not only international opportunities and threats but also the domestic institutions and political influences that shape policies. 

His current teaching includes security and economic issues in Pacific Asia and the Middle East; the politics of trade and international human rights institutions and policies.

Hoadley taught at universities in St Louis, Hong Kong, and Kobe before settling in New Zealand with his family in 1972.

He served in the US Navy and is now an Honorary Captain in the Royal New Zealand Navy.
