Joeven Castro

Joeven R. Castro, a PhD candidate in Communication at the University of Auckland, researches on Filipino teachers’ intermediary functions in crisis communication during COVID-19.

Before his PhD study leave, he was Vice President for Academic Services at Far Eastern University Manila, leading transformative student experience programmes. A media and information literacy (MIL) advocate, Joeven trained in the U.S. under the International Visitors Leadership Program, promoting MIL through education. He conducted workshops for basic education teachers to integrate MIL into curricula, organised by the National Council for Children’s Television. Additionally, he contributed to developing a digital literacy framework for Cambodia with UNESCO Phnom Penh and Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC). 

Joeven is a founding member and Communications Lead of the Philippine Studies Network Aotearoa New Zealand.
